Beach View Junior Suite, Hotel Del Coronado: Incredible Views!
Coronado, California, USA July 8-11, 2023
We were upgraded to a Beach View Junior suite after a bit of a snafu with the original room that we were offered. This room at the Hotel Del Coronado was a total upgrade from the prior room which had a view of the roof of the hotel, and pretty much nothing else. Definitely check out my Instagram room tour here!
The thing that you notice first upon walking into this room is the very open feel of the space. There is one king bed, and a very large sitting area, where we were able to open up the convertible sofa, and put in a rollaway bed.
The view from our room was incredible. Facing north, you could see the newer beach club area of the resort, as well as the entire stretch of Coronado beach all the way up to Point Loma. The views are some of the best I’ve had in any room in a beachy locale.
Considering how large the room is, the bathroom is quite small and cramped. There is barely enough room for a sink, toilet, and bathtub/shower combo.
This room, though, and seemingly all of the rooms in the Victorian Building, are in desperate need for an upgrade. The curtains in our room were janky and broken, and the valances over the curtains were stained. The carpet, while freshly shampooed, needs to be replaced. Everything in here was just a bit tired. Note that these rooms are about to undergo a massive renovation, and I’m hoping they do update the bathrooms, as there is a lot of room in these suites to expand. I expect everything will be new and fresh by summer of 2024.
Overall, this room was extremely comfortable for the four of us to lounge around, take breaks, and sleep. It was very large, and had incredible views. I’m not sure what the peak season pricing is for this room since we were upgraded, but our room without a view was around $800 per night all in, so I would expect a steep additional charge for the view. There are lot of different room types at the Hotel Del, and I can’t speak to the brand new rooms at the Beach Club, Cabana rooms, and rooms in the “Views” building. But if you’re only coming here once in your life, and you want to stay in the historic Victorian Building, I would 100% without hesitation splurge for the beach view rooms.
