Dining at Luna Muna, Roatan’s Best Restaurant: Full Review & Must-Try Dishes
We dined at Luna Muna at the Ibagari Boutique Hotel in Roatan daily while staying there for seven days in early February 2025. Check our my article about the resort here! This restaurant is consistently hailed as one of the best on the island, and I can honestly say that eating here not only was one of the reasons I chose this hotel for our vacation, but it was also some of the best eating we’ve done in Central America in the 11 years that we’ve been traveling there.

You don’t have to be staying at Ibagari in order to eat at Luna Muna, and there were definitely plenty of revelers coming here from other resorts for dinner most nights. If you aren’t staying at the resort, I would highly recommend booking a reservation (you can do it on Open Table!), as the restaurant does fill up, especially during nights with live music, Garifuna dancing, and other special events. They can accommodate large parties, as well as private, intimate dinners on the beach.

The restaurant is essentially the main area of the resort as well, and the open-air design is stunning. There’s a ton of natural wood everywhere, including an actual tree growing in the middle of the space. The bar is central to the restaurant, and is adorned with giant, woven lighting features that draw your eyes up. Service is generally very good, although occasionally spotty. They definitely leave you alone if you want to take your time. Each server and bartender we encountered over our seven days was very friendly and chatty, and they were all clearly proud of their work, and wanted to ensure an amazing experience.

During our seven days here we ate pretty much everything on the menu, and I really can’t say anything was bad. There were some real stand out options here, though, and I’m going to highlight some of my favorites here!

The first meal we had here was lunch, and I ordered the lobster bisque because I really wasn’t super hungry. Brian ordered the conch carpaccio and both items were absolute stunners. The bisque was rich, but not overwhelming, and was stuffed full of big lobster chunks. Don’t miss the lobster bisque!

The appetizers were all really amazing here. The shrimp wantons were absolutely fabulous, and the prosciutto croquettes were also top notch. Come hungry, because you’ll definitely want to try the soups, starters, and desserts here!

For the mains, Brian thought that the Burger was absolutely fantastic. He also ordered the whole red snapper when it was on special one night that was perfectly grilled and flaky.

Luna Muna does pastas extremely well, too. They are handmade on site, and are always prepared al dente. My absolute favorite pasta dish was the basil fettuccine with shrimp. This basil-infused homemade pasta was super flavorful and there was a creamy mushroom sauce that complimented the pasta and the fresh shrimp. This dish was so good, we ordered it twice, and it was probably my favorite dish of the whole trip! The spaghetti frutti di mare was also excellent – a close second to the basil fettuccine.

Two of our other favorite dinner highlights were the Meloso Rice with Calamari and Shrimp (which is easily enough for 2-3 people), as well as the grilled octopus.

Breakfasts are usually quite large, and the best value here at the restaurant. Our breakfast was included, although we weren’t aware of this at the time. Their French Toast was easily my favorite breakfast option, and Brian really enjoyed the plentiful chilaquiles.

For lunch, there is a beach and pool menu with a whole slew of additional options to try. I highly recommend the quesadillas, which are massive and super filling, as well as a bit spicy and super flavorful. They’re served with all the necessary accoutrements like guacamole, pico de gallo and crema. We also enjoyed the nachos (with home made chips!) and the coconut shrimp.

Finally, you can’t talk about Luna Muna Restaurant without talking about the cocktails. They have a super premium cocktail lineup and you really can’t go wrong with any of their specialty drinks. Not only will they make a fabulous mojito, bloody mary, or margarita, but venture into their craft cocktails, and you won’t be disappointed. I absolutely loved the JJ Special, which is a lovely mixed drink with mashed avocado. Let’s just say I had several of these! Luna Muna also serves Roatan Brewing beers on tap (some of the best craft beer in Central America), as well as a reasonable list of delicious wines by the glass and by the bottle.

If you’re staying at Ibagari Boutique Hotel, there’s really no reason to leave the resort to eat, as the absolute best food on the island is located right there at Luna Muna. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just a sunset cocktail, I highly recommend spending some time at this magical restaurant!
