Jean Georges Steakhouse, Las Vegas, A Pricey, Average Experience

Jean Georges Steakhouse, Las Vegas, A Pricey, Average Experience

We’ve been to A LOT of steakhouses not only in Chicago, but also in Las Vegas. Jean Georges at the Aria resort was a new one for us, and has a lot of hype about the quality and the experience. Overall, I would say that this restaurant was pretty average, especially for the price.

We arrived here to have dinner before the Lady Gaga concert at the Dolby Theater at the Park MGM right next door. We were a bit early at 5:30, but there were already folks here dining and at the bar. The ambiance is dark and moody, which is not super unusual for a steakhouse. I did love the large leather tables which elevated the experience, and the super sharp steak knives.

Service here was excellent, and folks were always around making sure we had everything we needed and they even offered us extra bread to start. The pull-apart parker house rolls were delicious, not too dry, and accompanied by delicious salted butter, and we were really hungry so we did get an extra loaf.

We actually weren’t enthusiastic about any of the appetizer or soup offerings so we skipped it in favor of the bread, and to maybe have room for dessert at the end of our meal. For the main, we split a large 20+ ounce porterhouse, which was sliced for us tableside. They did also get the temperature right, with our preference being medium rare bordering on rare. One of the nice touches was that it came with four complimentary sauces to try with the steak, which were mostly unnecessary because the meat was flavorful on its own. My favorite was the miso sauce for some extra umami.

For sides, we ordered smashed crispy potatoes, which unfortunately were not super crispy, although this was a huge portion. The truffle mac and cheese was excellent with a nice panko crust on top as well as a ton of shaved truffles. The mushrooms were also excellent, and may have been my favorite of the three sides.

For dessert we split the New York style cheesecake, which was extremely fluffy and creamy. It was so bright that I have to wonder if it never even saw an oven. To compliment it, and to keep us awake through the concert after getting up at 4am central time to fly to Vegas that day, we ordered delicious espresso martinis!

Jean Georges was tasty, and there is not much to complain about apart from the lackluster appetizer offerings, and the fact that the crispy potatoes were not crispy, however there was nothing that we had here that makes this place a stand out to us, or worthy of returning. Bavette’s is still my favorite steakhouse in Vegas AND Chicago!
