Westport Cafe, A Lovely French Bistro in Kansas City
We ate at the Westport Cafe in between lots of touring around Kansas City. We were hungry and we needed fuel to get us through the rest of the day. Westport Cafe was exactly what we wanted – an adorable french bistro with an extensive menu with a ton of options for filling us up. We ate here on our only full day in Kansas City, November 5, 2023.
Westport Cafe is in a neighborhood full of coffee shops, bars and restaurants. It’s not one of the loud ones – it’s a discreet little storefront that you could almost walk right by and miss – we did! Don’t skip by here though, it’s a great little place to grab a drink and fill yourself up. There’s a nice bar right at the front, and the space is renovated and cozy, with exposed brick walls, wooden tables and bistro chairs. Service here was a bit slow, but that was fine for us as we were taking a midday break from being on our feet.
We started with the apple beignets which were to die for. Super crispy and sweet on the outside and a bit mushy in the middle. There was a subtle apple flavor that was a nice change from plain beignets which was perfect for autumn. Do not skip ordering these!
For our mains, I ordered a croque madame and Brian ordered the breakfast burrito. I loved my sandwich, it was not too saucy, but the ham was super delicious and there was a lot of it. The toast was perfectly crunchy and not mushy at all – not even after I broke up the eggs on top, so that was really good. The fries here are also excellent – not quite shoestring, but very crispy, and you get a TON of them! Brian enjoyed his burrito although thought it was too heavy on the potatoes. It was all a lot of food for a really reasonable price.
We left here with our bellies full and ready to tackle our next tourist attraction. Westport Cafe is a legit french bistro, with delicious and plentiful food. Definitely make a reservation on the weekends, and enjoy!
